Virus Popper: Personal Hygiene VR game to help fight COVID-19

by Valda Fox

As COVID-19 continues to spread around the world everyone is trying to help stop the spread in any way they can. VR game developers and publishers Starcade Arcade have created an educational VR game titled Virus Popper. The game will help everyone learn more about personal hygiene and the importance of washing your hands, social distancing etc.

Game developers Starcade Arcade say that:

“Virus Poppers is a fast-paced educational game about personal hygiene. We wanted to make a fun and friendly way to share important messages without adding to the fear and panic in the world right now”.

Before you can even start to play the game you have to wash your hands virtually, with soap for at least 20 seconds. During the game you fight off the virus and bacteria and try not to get infected, you:

“POP the virus with powerful disinfectants and sprays.
CRUSH filthiness with legendary weapons like the toilet scrubber.
WASH your hands in the sink to get cleansed.
PROTECT and avoid touching your face at all costs.”

Though Virus Popper is not officially endorsed by WHO, CDC or any other official health organization it does teach you some important things about hygiene and help you get into habit of washing your hands and avoiding touching your face. Both very important habits that WHO and CDC recommends to practice. Though it doesn’t teach the proper way to wash your hands to really thoroughly to get all the bacteria off,  it just teaches that you have to wash your hands for at least 20 sec.

The game will be released on April 9th, 2020 on Steam, Viveport and Oculus Home Store. Here is the games Steam website.
